The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stated that during the comprehensive cold wave, China has intensified efforts to ensure stable production and supply of crops, vegetables, fruits, and livestock, and to minimize losses caused by extreme weather.

After releasing detailed preventive measures for crops and animal husbandry, the Ministry of Agriculture dispatched a working group on Saturday to provide on-site guidance to local authorities and farmers, and on Sunday in Beijing, Tianjin, Guangdong, and Chongqing.

25 working groups composed of experts in wheat, rapeseed, vegetables, fruits, and disaster prevention and mitigation were dispatched to different regions to conduct on-site investigations, evaluate the development of impacts, and provide technical guidance.

In northern China, the Ministry of Agriculture suggests strengthening the classification management of winter wheat and implementing graded irrigation for late growing wheat seedlings to alleviate the impact of cold weather. Farmers should pay attention to the maintenance and reinforcement of greenhouses and animal shelters, and promptly clear snow.

In southern China, farmers should implement anti freezing and waterproofing measures for rapeseed, open field vegetables, and fruit trees. In addition, efforts should be made to allocate and transport disaster relief seeds, fertilizers, feed, vaccines, and other production materials as needed.

According to the China Meteorological Administration, the impact of this heavy snowfall is nearing its end, but a strong cold wave accompanying the snowfall is moving from north to south, affecting the central and eastern regions of China. Another strong cold wave is expected to arrive in China from Monday to Wednesday, causing temperatures in the northern plains of China to drop to historic lows.
