By the end of the ice and snow season in 2024-2025, China's ice and snow leisure tourism industry is expected to receive more than 520 million tourists, with revenues of more than 720 billion yuan (US $104.5 billion), becoming the core development engine of winter tourism and ice and snow economy.

The China Tourism Research Institute released estimated data in its annual report on the development of ice and snow tourism in China.

It is reported that during the ice and snow season from 2021-2022, China has received 344 million tourists with an income of 474 billion yuan. At present, the industry is showing a positive growth momentum.

Dai Bin, president of the China Tourism Research Institute, said that due to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, policy innovation and the promotion of governments at all levels, ice and snow tourism has injected vitality into traditional folk customs across the country, making tourism choices and consumption scenes in the industry more diversified.

From 2016 to 2022, China invested about 2.88 trillion yuan in ice and snow tourism infrastructure projects. By the end of 2022, nearly 9000 relevant enterprises have registered in the ice and snow sector. According to the report, only in 2022, 1460 people will be added, with a year-on-year growth of 20.1%.

"With the continuous release of domestic market consumption potential and the recovery of long-distance ice and snow tourism, it is estimated that the number of Chinese ice and snow leisure tourists will exceed 300 million in the 2022-2023 ice and snow season," said Han Yuanjun of the college.
